How to Take an LPN to RN Program in South Carolina

Grade point averages from LPN training and employer references are both considered when applying to an LPN to RN program in South Carolina. A little more than half the applicants in the state are accepted, as entry is highly competitive—the need for nurses and the demand for nursing education exceed the educational capacity of nursing schools in the state. Once enrolled, a year of course work introduces nurses to nurse management, advanced care strategies, critical planning processes, and some elective topics in the liberal arts and sciences to further diversify a student’s knowledge. The final step to RN licensure is the NCLEX-RN, which, like the NCLEX-PN, costs $200 to take via Pearson Vue and requires application to the South Carolina Board of Nursing at a cost of $97. Only once the test has been passed—around 85 percent of students pass the test on their first try—are students qualified to begin work as a South Carolina Registered Nurse and take the next step in their nursing career.
