To apply to an RN to BSN program, one must submit transcripts from previous RN training, as well as recommendations from employers and any volunteer experience—while grades are the most important factor, these recommendations are also important to one’s application to a college of nursing. After acceptance, students take classes in advanced nursing theory and practice, as well as targeted learning in such topics as community health research and programming, pharmacology, specialized topics in psychology and physiology, and more—course offerings vary from program to program. There is no final examination and students leave the program with a depth and breadth of knowledge that can lead to advanced opportunities within their current workplace, new jobs outside of a health care setting, and the possibility of continuing to pursue their studies at a graduate level and become an Advanced Practice Nurse, receive a Master’s degree, and beyond.
