LPN to RN education programs in Kansas take between one and two years. Acceptance into the programs relies upon performance in previous college courses taken as part of an LPN program and one must meet general studies requirements for entry into the college or university where they wish to study. In addition, one must be currently licensed as an LPN, and some programs require a year’s work experience in a health care setting as well.

Once enrolled, students take both general studies courses in math, psychology and the humanities, and a number of core courses focusing specifically on nursing concepts and practice. The last step in the program is the National Council Licensure Examination, Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). The NCLEX-RN costs $200 to take through Pearson Vue in addition to a $50 application fee paid to the Kansas State Board of Nursing. The NCLEX-RN is the gateway to working as a Registered Nurse, and, once passed, students enter the largest group of health care professionals in the United States—Registered Nurses.
