South Carolina, SC | LPN Nursing Program Information

How to Become a LPN in South Carolina

Around five courses of first year study in subjects like biology, physiology and psychology are required before applying to a South Carolina LPN program. Once enrolled, training then lasts a year as students learn about patient care techniques and practices and get ready to take the National Counsel Licensing Examination-Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN). It is a nationally-standardized licensure test and Pearson Vue charges $200 to take it. In addition, the South Carolina Board of Nursing requires application along with proof of completion of an LPN education program, which costs $77. The vast majority of students pass the exam—pass rates average 90 percent in the state—and it is the final step to licensure and a beginning a career in nursing in South Carolina.
