Michigan CNA Training

CNA training in Michigan is regulated by the Department of Community Health and is widely available. Courses in the state consist of a minimum of 75 hours of training, with a minimum of 16 hours of supervised hands-on experience and a concurrent minimum of 16 hours of classroom instruction. However, training courses in the state sometimes run longer to ensure optimal training is achieved. Courses do not require a high school diploma or GED, and typically cost around $750. If one is employed in a nursing facility during training or becomes employed within twelve months, the facility is required to cover the costs, making entry into a CNA career highly affordable.

CNA License in Michigan

The Michigan Department of Community Health provides CNA licenses through Prometric (http://www.prometric.com/NurseAide/MI.htm). After completing an approved training program, the Michigan CNA test consists of a two-part test including a written examination and a skills demonstration test, for which Prometric provides practice exams and preparation instructions. The exam costs $176.50 total. Once one has successfully passed the CNA exam and registered with the Michigan CNA registry, certification must be renewed every two years at a cost of $20 with proof of at least eight hours of employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant over the same time period.
