Maine CNA Training

While only a ninth-grade education is required to enter a Certified Nursing Assistant Training program in Maine, a high school or GED diploma is preferred. Training consists of a minimum of 150 hours of instruction, which is twice the national requirement and will increase to 180 hours in 2010, and is split between the classroom and hands-on clinical training. Once training is complete, the nursing facility in which a CNA is working or in which they find work within 12 months of completion must reimburse cost of training as well, making Certified Nursing Assistant training in Maine an affordable and easy way to enter the health care industry.

The Maine Department of Human and Health Services, Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services maintains the CNA registry in the state. The Maine CNA test is a 2-part test including a written or oral examination, and a skills demonstration test given after an individual has successfully completed state-approved CNA Training, which then leads to placement on the Maine CNA Registry. Standing on the registry must then be renewed every two years with at least 8 hours of paid employment over the same time period. Additionally, employers must provide 12 hours of continuing education per year.
